Park County
Just a short drive south of Breckenridge, beginning at the top of Hoosier Pass at the Continental Divide, begins Park County. Home to many locals who work and play in Summit county, Fairplay is the fishing capital of Colorado with abundant trout fishing along the North Fork of the South Platte River. Fairplay is also host to the world-famous Burro Race every July, in which pack burros make the same trek that mining pioneers made from Fairplay over the Mosquito Gulch Range. Fairplay is home to a Music Festival every summer, with musicians from all over the country performing free concerts. There is a Recreation Center in Fairplay and a state-of-the-art Skateboard Park!
“Highest Elevation for an Incorporated Town in the Lower 48!” At 10,578 feet, the Town of Alma, Colorado, has a “Festival in the Clouds” every July. The festival showcases vendor booths, musicians, events for kids, and a Renaissance Fair with performers dressed in original costumes.
Park County has 14,000-foot mountains to climb and hiking trails galore, not to mention mountain bike trails, snowshoeing trails, snowmobiling, and breathtaking views as you drive over Hoosier Pass.
